How Blogs Work In Avada

How Blogs Work In Avada

A Blog is a section of a website, that typically shows news or articles. The content is usually presented in reverse chronological order (newer content appears first). Individual Blog entries are referred to as 『Blog posts』. The 『Posts』 post type is a core WordPress post type, like pages, and individual Blog posts are first created, and then displayed on the site using a variety of methods.
Watch the video below and read the full set of Blog documents, as shown on the left, to get a clear idea of how best to use this powerful, and very flexible, set of publishing tools.,The Blog (Post) Post TypeThe first thing to understand about setting up a Blog is that posts are a default post type in WordPress, in the same way that pages are. So, setting up a Blog in Avada requires you to first create Blog posts, and then you can display them on your site in various ways, for example, by using an assigned blog page, or by using the Blog or Recent Posts Element.
The 『Post』 Post Type gathers your blog items together in a collection, separate from other post types, and also provides options for Categories, and Tags, which allow for further filtering and sorting down the track. The 『Post』 Post Type and the Blog and Recent Posts Element, together with the Avada Theme Options and the Avada Page Options, offer an enormously wide range of choices, to give you a multitude of ways you can set up a Blog on your Avada site.,Overview of the Blog Creation ProcessIn the other documents in the Blog Category, as you can see on the left hand side of the page, we break down the process of creating a Blog into their individual steps, but in broad terms, to create a Blog on your Avada site, you will follow this general process:

Create your individual Blog posts. These are the individual articles/posts in your blog. The following documents go into much more detail on this process, but there is enormous flexibility here, both for how things are laid out, and options of using Categories, and Tags for further filtering and sorting.

Use the one of the various methods to display your blog posts on your site. Once you have created your individual Single Blog Posts, you have a choice of methods to display them on your site. See the Displaying Blog Posts On Your Site document for all the possibilities.
There are also a range of Blog options in the both the Theme Options and the Post Options to control the layout and functionality of both the General Blog, and the Single Blog Posts.
Blogs themselves are the cornerstone of some sites, and so we have created a system that provides the necessary muscle and flexibility to cover almost any scenario. Make sure you read the remaining Blog docs to see how this great system can work for you.
Next Step: Creating Blog Posts

Blog Post Formats

Blog Post Formats

Avada includes two Blog layouts that show a post format icon – they are the Large Alternate and Medium Alternate layouts. A post format is a piece of meta information that can be used by a theme to customize its presentation of a post. For these two specific layouts in the Avada theme, we have added custom icons to represent each type of post format: Standard, Gallery, Link, Image, Quote, Video, Audio, and Chat.
When using the large or medium alternate layouts, you can select the type of post format so the correct icon shows in the design. When editing a blog post, click on 「Screen Options」 in the top right corner of your admin to ensure the 「Format」 box is checked. Once checked, you will see the Format box on the right side that allows you to choose the specific format for the post. The chosen format icon will then show on the post. The image below shows a post using the Medium Alternate Layout and a Chat Post Format Icon.

Avada Hooks: Actions and Filters

Avada Hooks: Actions and Filters

Actions and Filters are provided by WordPress to allow your plugin to 『hook into』 the rest of WordPress; the same concept is used by Avada to allow hooking into Avada specific functionality so that you can modify it in a child theme or even a plugin.
Click Here To View The Fusion Builder Hooks ArticleOverviewHow To Use A Hook/Filter?How To Add Code After The Opening Body TagConversion For Child Themes
Actions List

Filters List
How To Use a Hook Or A Filter?So, let』s assume you want to add a banner ad before the entire header. There are three ways to do that:
1. Edit the parent theme』s code and add the code in the header file
2. Copy the header file into the child theme and modify the code in that file
3. Use an action in a child theme』s functions.php
With the #1 and #2 above, there is a high possibility that the edit would be lost during an update. By using an action, you don』t edit or overwrite the core code which is why, your code will rarely need to be changed.
To add a banner ad before the entire header, we need to use the 「avada_before_header_wrapper」 action in the functions.php of the child theme. Following is an example code:
Copy to Clipboardadd_action( 'avada_before_header_wrapper', 'avada_add_banner' );
function avada_add_banner() {
echo 'Ad Banner';
} 1add_action( 'avada_before_header_wrapper', 'avada_add_banner' );2function avada_add_banner() {3 echo 'Ad Banner';4}Filters are similar to the actions but instead of 『hooking』 into the code, you are simply changing the final output. You can read more about the difference difference between actions and filters from the beginner』s guide.
How To Add Code After The Opening Body TagTo add code, such as GTM script, after the opening
Copy to Clipboard1 1tag, you will have to use the 「avada_before_body_content」 filter. If you』re not familiar with editing child theme files or you don』t have a child theme installed, you can install the Code Snippets plugin then add this code to it:
Copy to Clipboardfunction my_custom_head_function_for_avada() {
?>
