Portfolio Global Options

There is a range of both global and local options for the various parts of the Portfolio system. Here, let』s look at the various global options that affect the Portfolio.

Avada Builder Elements > Portfolio Element,General Portfolio OptionsFirstly, the General Portfolio Options are located at Avada > Global Options > Portfolio > General Portfolio, from the WordPress dashboard. These options deal almost exclusively with portfolio archive page settings. Archive pages are the automatically generated pages you get when you click on a Portfolio Category, Skill, or Tag on the front end. These archive pages display according to the options chosen here. See the Portfolio Archives & Filters documentation for more information on this.

Portfolio Archive Layout –  Controls the layout for the portfolio archive pages. Choose between Grid or Masonry.

Portfolio Archive Featured Image Size –  Controls if the featured image size is fixed (cropped) or auto (full image ratio) for portfolio archive pages. Choose between Fixed or Auto. Note: 『Fixed』 will use a uniform image size generated by the theme. 『Auto』 will use the image』s natural size and scale according to your layout in proportion with itself.

Portfolio Archive Number of Columns –  Controls the number of columns per row for portfolio archive pages. With Carousel layout, this specifies the maximum amount of columns. This ranges from 1 – 6. Note: Masonry layout does not work with 1 column.

Portfolio Archive Column Spacing –  Controls the column spacing for portfolio items for archive pages. This is a pixel unit.

Equal Heights –  Allows you to display grid boxes with equal heights per row. Choose between On or Off.

Portfolio Archive Content Position –  Select if the title, terms, and excerpts should be displayed below or next to the featured images. Choose between Below Image or Next to Image.

Number of Portfolio Items Per Archive Page –  Controls how many portfolio items to display on the portfolio archive page. -1 will display all and 0 will use the number set in WP Admin > Settings > Reading.

Portfolio Archive Text Layout –  Controls if the portfolio text content is displayed boxed or unboxed or is completely disabled for portfolio archive pages. Choose between No Text, Boxed, or Unboxed.

Portfolio Archive Text Display –  Controls how to display the post excerpt for portfolio archive pages. Choose between No Text, Excerpt, or Full Content.

Portfolio Archive Excerpt Length –  Controls the number of words in the excerpts for portfolio archive pages.

Strip HTML from Excerpt – Allows you to strip HTML from the excerpt for portfolio archive pages. Choose between On or Off. Choose On to strip HTML, or Off to keep it.

Portfolio Archive Title Display – Controls what displays with the portfolio post title and categories for portfolio archive pages. Choose between Title and Categories, Only Title, Only Categories, or None.

Portfolio Archive Text Alignment – Controls the alignment of the portfolio title, categories and excerpt text when using the Portfolio Text layouts in portfolio archive pages. Choose between Left, Center, or Right.

Portfolio Archive Text Layout Padding – Controls the padding for the portfolio text layout when using boxed mode in portfolio archive pages.

Portfolio Archive Pagination Type – Controls the pagination type for portfolio archive pages. Choose between Pagination, Infinite Scroll, or Load More Button.

Load More Posts Button Background Color – Controls the background color of the load more button for ajax post loading for portfolio archives.

Load More Posts Button Text Color –Controls the text color of the load more button for ajax post loading for portfolio archives.

Load More Posts Button Hover Background Color – Controls the hover background color of the load more button for ajax post loading for portfolio archives.

Load More Posts Hover Button Text Color – Controls the hover text color of the load more button for ajax post loading for portfolio archives.

Portfolio Slug – Allows you to set a custom permalink when you use %postname% for your WordPress site』s permalink structure. This slug name cannot be the same name as a page name or the layout will break.

Meta Data Font Size – Controls the font size for metadata text. Enter value including any valid CSS unit, ex: 13px.,Portfolio Single Post OptionsThe Portfolio Single Post tab is below the General Portfolio tab. The options here cover the default options for the Portfolio Single Posts, which can also be overridden on a portfolio item by item basis. See below for the Global options and see the Portfolio Post Options for more info on how to override these options on a post by post basis.

Previous/Next Pagination – Turn on to display the previous/next post pagination for single portfolio posts.

100% Width Page – Turn on to display portfolio posts at 100% browser width according to the window size. Turn off to follow site width

Featured Image Column Size – Controls if the featured image is half or full width on single portfolio posts.

Featured Image / Video on Single Post Page – Turn on to display featured images and videos on single portfolio posts.

First Featured Image – Turn on to display the 1st featured image on single portfolio posts.

Project Description Title – Turn on to show the project description title on single portfolio posts.

Project Details – Turn on to show the project details title and content on single portfolio posts.

Open Portfolio Links In New Window – Turn on to open the single post page, project URL and copyright URL links in a new window.

Author – Turn on to display the author name on single portfolio posts.

Social Sharing Box – Turn on to display the social sharing box on single portfolio posts.

Related Projects – Turn on to display related projects on single portfolio posts.

Comments – Turn on to display comments on single portfolio posts.

Get Avada,Sidebars > Portfolio PostsThere are also Portfolio options in the Sidebars > Portfolio Posts, and Sidebars > Portfolio Archive sections. These two sections allow you to control the display and content of any sidebars you might want on your Single Portfolio Posts and Portfolio Archive Pages.

Global Portfolio Post Sidebar 1 –  Select sidebar 1 that will display on all portfolio posts.

Global Portfolio Post Sidebar 2 – Select sidebar 2 that will display on all portfolio posts. This can only be selected in Sidebar 1 is also selected.

Force Global Sidebars For Portfolio Posts – Turn on if you want to use the same sidebars on all portfolio posts. This option disables the Sidebars tab in the Avada Page Options on Portfolio Posts.

Global Portfolio Sidebar Position – Controls the position of sidebar 1 for all portfolio posts and archive pages. If sidebar 2 is selected, it will display on the opposite side.,Sidebars > Portfolio Archive
Portfolio Archive Sidebar 1 – Select sidebar 1 that will display on the portfolio archive pages.

Portfolio Archive Sidebar 2 – Select sidebar 2 that will display on the portfolio archive pages. Sidebar 2 can only be used if sidebar 1 is selected.,Avada Builder Elements > Portfolio ElementFinally, in the Avada Builder Elements > Portfolio Element area of the theme options, you can set the default behavior of the Portfolio Element, which as well can be overridden in any instance of the Element you place on a page.

Portfolio Featured Image Size – Controls if the featured image size is fixed (cropped) or auto (full image ratio) for portfolio elements. IMPORTANT: Fixed works best with a standard 940px site width. Auto works best with larger site widths.

Number of Columns – Set the number of columns per row. With Carousel layout, this specifies the maximum amount of columns. IMPORTANT: Masonry layout does not work with 1 column. Column Spacing – Controls the column spacing for portfolio items. In pixels.

Number of Portfolio Items Per Page – Controls the number of posts that display per page for portfolio elements. Set to -1 to display all. Set to 0 to use the number of posts from Settings > Reading.

Portfolio Text Layout – Controls if the portfolio text content is displayed boxed or unboxed or is completely disabled for portfolio elements.

Portfolio Text Display – Choose how to display the post excerpt for portfolio elements.

Excerpt Length – Controls the number of words in the excerpts for portfolio elements.

Portfolio Title Display – Controls what displays with the portfolio post title for portfolio elements.

Portfolio Post Options

As part of the Fusion Page Options, on Portfolio Posts, you will find a Portfolio tab. On that tab, are all the individual portfolio and post settings that can be set for each Portfolio Post.
These are local options, which can be configured on a post by post basis to override the global theme options, or left as is to accept the global defaults. As an example, this post on the Agency demo has virtually every global portfolio option turned off or hidden, so on the single post, it displays as a regular page, whereas all but the first three portfolio items on the Agency demo are using global defaults, and showing Categories, Skills, Tags, etc..

Show Previous/Next Pagination – Choose to show or hide the post navigation. 

Use 100% Width Page – Choose to set this post to 100% browser width.

Width (Content Columns for Featured Image) – Choose if the featured image is full or half width.

Disable First Featured Image – Disable the 1st featured image on single post pages.

Featured Image Dimensions – In pixels or percentage, ex: 100% or 100px. Or Use 「auto」 for automatic resizing if you added either width or height.

Video Embed Code – Insert Youtube or Vimeo embed code.

Youtube/Vimeo Video URL for Lightbox – Insert the video URL that will show in the lightbox.

Show Project Description Title – Choose to show or hide the project description title.

Show Project Details – Choose to show or hide the project details text.

Project URL – The URL the project text links to.

Project URL Text – The custom project text that will link.

Copyright URL – The URL the copyright text links to.

Copyright URL Text – The custom copyright text that will link.

Image Rollover Icons – Choose which icons display on this post. Leave empty for default value

Custom Link URL On Archives – Link URL that will be used on archives either for the rollover link icon or on the image if rollover icons are disabled. Leave blank for post URL.

Open Portfolio Links In New Window – Choose to open the single post page, project URL and copyright URL links in a new window.

Show Author – Choose to show or hide the author in the Project Details.

Show Social Share Box – Choose to show or hide the social share box.

Show Related Projects – Choose to show or hide related projects on this post.

Show Comments – Choose to show or hide comments area.

Creating Custom Portfolio Layouts with Avada Layouts

With the introduction of Avada Layouts, it is now easy to create completely custom Layouts for your Portfolio pages. The two main Portfolio related areas you can create custom Layouts for are the Single Portfolio Page, and the Archives page.
With the help of Layout Elements, and with the help of Dynamic Content within normal Design Elements, you can build virtually any layout you can think of, using the full power of the Avada Builder. And using the power of Conditional Layouts, you can specify exactly when and where your Layout will be used. You could make a Custom Layout for ALL single portfolio pages, just for a single portfolio post, or category etc, or you could also just exclude a single post of category. The Conditions can be as simple or as complex as you need them to be.
Custom Portfolio Post LayoutIf you want to create a Custom Layout for your Single Portfolio Post pages, create a Custom Layout (found under Avada > Layouts) and start by setting the Conditions on the Layout to show it on all single portfolio items in the Layout Conditions dialog (Portfolio > All Portfolio). You can then build your Layout using various Custom Layout Sections.
When building the Content Layout Section, you will find the Layout Elements, most of which you will use to design the content section of the Single Portfolio Post Layout. These dynamic elements pull the required data from the database based on the conditions of the layout, and for a Portfolio Single Post Layout, you could choose from such Elements as Pagination, Content, Author, Featured Images Slider, and Project Details to design your layout.

Portfolio Archives LayoutYou might also want to create a Custom Layout for your Portfolio Archives pages. Just remember, that a Custom Layout can include as little or as much as you want.
You may just want to add a Custom Page Title Bar, or Custom Footer, but you might also want to customise the Content Layout Section of the page. For this, there is the Archive Element, one of the Layout Elements, as well as the other Layout Section and normal design elements. See the How To Use The Layout Elements video for more info on this.
If you don』t set a Custom Content Layout Section, your Archives layout will be controlled from the Portfolio Archives Layout Options, found under the Options > General Portfolio tab.

Portfolio Single Post Pages

At the core of the Portfolio system in Avada are the Portfolio Single Post Pages. Each portfolio item you create generates a corresponding Portfolio Single Post page. The single post page is the full portfolio post and associated content such as Featured Images, Project Details, Project URL text, Copyright URL text, etc. In this article, we will explain all the relevant sections in a single post page and how to configure it to your preferences.

The Post Editor – You can use either the WordPress editor or the Avada Builder to create your Portfolio Post Content.

The Custom Post Type Fields – This is where you add and assign Portfolio Categories, Skills, Tags, and Featured Images to your individual Portfolio posts.

The Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options – Here you can override global options pertaining to the Portfolio Single Post, and further extend the post with embedded videos, and other project details.

Get Avada,The Post EditorThe Post Editor is where you add your page content for your Portfolio posts. Other content comes from the Custom Post Type Fields, and through the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options, so depending on the type of Portfolio Post you are making, you might add more or less content via the Editor. Avada allows you to use any editor on the single post pages, from the WordPress Editor, the Gutenberg Editor or the Avada Builder. To enable the Avada Builder, simply click the 『Avada Builder』 button above the WordPress Content Editor to access the Avada Builder. Any elements and content added to the post is treated exactly like regular page content.
As an example, this portfolio post on the Avada Agency demo has just two paragraphs of dummy text added through the Editor, while this post has a full Avada Builder layout.,The Custom Post Type FieldsThere are four fields added to the Portfolio Custom Post Type to allow you to add specific portfolio details to your posts – Portfolio Categories, Skills, Tags, and the Featured Images fields. These are accessed on the right-hand side of the page.

Portfolio Categories – Here, you can add and assign Portfolio Categories. Categories are pre-defined taxonomies used to sort and group content into different sections and making it easier for the user to filter and select the relevant portfolio items they prefer to view.
You can add Categories on the fly by clicking the + Add New Category link at the bottom of the Portfolio Categories section, or you can navigate to Portfolio < Portfolio Categories to set up your Categories independently. To assign Categories, check the box next to the Category name. These Categories are the filters that show above your portfolio items when displaying your Portfolio items with the Portfolio Element. They allow you to filter different types of projects.
When using the Portfolio Element, you can choose to pull posts by Category or Tag, so think about how you would like your Portfolio Filters to work. Category is the default option.

Skills – Here, you can add and assign any associated Skills to the post. Each skills tag is a meta link that your viewer can click to view similar types of portfolio posts.
You can add Skills on the fly by clicking the + Add New Skill link at the bottom of the Skills section, or you can navigate to Portfolio Slideshows > Post Slideshow Images and increasing/decreasing the number (min. 1 – max. 30).
For a video post, paste the iFrame embed from either Youtube or Vimeo into the Video Embed Code field, found in the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options. See the Avada Page Options section below, for more details on that.,Avada Page Options > Portfolio TabThe Portfolio Tab of the Avada Theme Options is a very important part of the Portfolio post type. Here you can accept or override the global Portfolio Single Post Options on your individual post, and there are extra fields to add further information to your Portfolio items, such as the Video Embed field, and the Project and Copyright URL and Text fields.
Please see the Portfolio Post Options doc for the full range of options. Below, we will look at some of the less understood post options available.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Avada Page Options will override the global options set in Avada Theme Options.,Selecting The Column Width LayoutEach Portfolio post you create allows you to set the width of the Featured Image』s column. This option is called the 『Width (Content Columns for Featured Image)』 option and you can set it to be Full Width or Half Width. You can also set the entire Portfolio post to display 100% of the browser width.

Default – This is the global value that is set in Avada Theme Options > Portfolio > Portfolio Single Post > Featured Image Column Size.
Half Width – This option lets you set the Featured Image column on the left side of the screen, and the Project Description and Details column on the right side. View an example of a Half Width layout here.Full Width – This option lets you set the Featured Image to display full width on top of the page, and the Project Description and Details below it in two columns. View an example of a Full Width layout here.100% Width Page – This option lets you display the entire Portfolio Single Post page in 100% of the browser width. View an example of a 100% Width layout here.,Featured Image DimensionsThe Featured Image you upload to each post will show the full image ratio on the single post page by default. The width of the featured image will be set to the site width or the column width if you』re using a Half Width layout and the height is set to auto so it displays the original height. In addition to this, you can set a custom featured image width and height to control the size of the image. This is useful in specific situations when you need a custom featured image size.
The 『Featured Image Dimensions』 option (Image width and height) is located in the Avada Page Options > Portfolio section of the posts page. Values are set in pixels or percentage, ex: 100% or 100px. Or Use 「auto」 for automatic resizing if you added either width or height.,Featured VideosYou can also upload a Youtube or a Vimeo video to be displayed in the Featured Image section of the portfolio post. You can even have a combination of videos and images, displayed as a slideshow on the portfolio single post page. Read below to learn how to upload a Youtube or a Vimeo video.
How To Upload A Youtube/Vimeo VideoStep 1 – Go to the 『Portfolio』 tab on your WordPress admin sidebar and clicking 『Add New』 to add a new post.
Step 2 – Give your portfolio post a title and add your content as normal.
Step 3 – In the Avada Page Options box, switch to the 『Portfolio』 tab, then find the 『Video Embed Code』 option.
Step 4 – Enter the Youtube or Vimeo embed code into the provided field. You can find the embed code by clicking the 『Embed』 option on Youtube, and the 『Share』 option on Vimeo.
Step 5 – Click 『Save Draft』 or 『Publish』.,Project Description Title and Project DescriptionThe Project Description section is any content you insert in the WordPress Content Editor. This is usually the text description of the project, but it can also contain any of our elements. This is where you can put any descriptive content detailing your project. The Project Title Description option on the Portfolio tab allows you to add the Project Title automatically at the top of the content added in the Editor.,Project DetailsThe Show Project Details option shows the meta information relating to the project. For Full-Width layouts, the Project Details are placed in a sidebar next to the Project Description. For Half-Width layouts, they』re displayed below the Project Description.
The information shown in the Project Details consists of the Project categories, Skills and Tags added to each Portfolio Post, as well as the Project URL & URL Text, and the Copyright URL & URL Text.
Project URL & URL Text – This option lets you insert a Custom URL and text for the project. This is perfect for when you have an external link to show the viewer, or an internal link to another page or post of your site.Copyright URL & URL Text – This option lets you insert a Custom URL and text for the Project Copyright. This can be useful for a project that might have been a collaboration with another person or company.The key to understanding the Portfolio Single Post page is to understand how the various areas of the page contribute to the end result, and how you can use the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options to override the Single Post Global Options set in the Avada theme Options.
Once you have your Portfolio items created, you can think about how to display the Portfolio as a whole, which is done with the Portfolio Element. But before we do that, let』s have a deeper look at how the Global and Local Options affect the various parts of the Portfolio system.

Creating Portfolio Posts

Before you can display your Portfolio items on a page, you first need to create them. The Portfolio Single Posts Pages documentation goes into extensive detail on the possibilities of the single post page, but here is a short overview of the Portfolio Post creation process.
How To Create A Portfolio PostStep 1 – Navigate to the Portfolio tab in your WordPress admin.
Step 2 – Click on the Add New button to create a post. Insert a title, then insert any post content in the editing field. You can use Avada Builder to create advanced portfolio item layouts, like this one, or you can just add simple text to create a more simple portfolio item, like this one, also from the Agency Demo.
Step 3 – Add and assign Categories on the right side of the post. You can add Categories on the fly by clicking the + Add New Category link at the bottom of the Portfolio Categories section, or you can navigate to Portfolio < Portfolio Categories to set up your Categories independently. To assign Categories, check the box next to the Category name. These Categories are the filters that show above your portfolio items when displaying your Portfolio items with the Portfolio Element. They allow you to filter different types of projects.
Step 4 – Add and assign any associated Skills on the right side of the post. You can add Skills on the fly by clicking the + Add New Skill link at the bottom of the Skills section, or you can navigate to Portfolio Slideshows tab.
Step 8 – For a video post, paste the iFrame embed from either Youtube or Vimeo into the Video Embed Code field, found in the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options.
Step 9 – Select any number of other options for the portfolio post in the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options.
Step 10 – Once you are finished, click Publish to save the post.

Related Projects

Related Projects are Portfolio Posts which appear below each active portfolio post, and that have similar categories as the one being currently viewed.
Related Projects are a convenient way to show your viewers other projects that they may be interested in, based on the one they are currently viewing. You can choose to activate Related Posts globally under the Fusion Theme Options, or individually per post under the Fusion Page Options. Continue reading below to learn more about Related Projects and its included options.
Displaying Related Projects GloballyStep 1 – Navigate to the Avada > Theme Options > Portfolio > Portfolio Single Post sub-panel to access the portfolio single posts options.
Step 2 – Find the 『Related Posts』 option and switch it to On to display Related Posts on portfolio projects globally.
Displaying Related Posts Individually Per PostStep 1 – Navigate to the portfolio post you』d like to display Related Projects in, then to the Fusion Page Options box below the editor field.
Step 2 – In the Portfolio tab, set the Show Related Posts field to Default, Show, or Hide. The Default setting will keep the Fusion Theme Option setting. Show or Hide will override the Fusion Theme Option settings for the current post.
Related Project OptionsThe various options for Related Posts are located in the Avada > Theme Options > Extra > Related Posts / Projects sub-panel. These options also affect the Related Posts for Blog Posts. All of these options are global settings that cannot be overridden per post. Continue reading to learn more about each of these options.

Related Posts / Projects Layout – Controls the layout of the related posts/projects title text. Choose from title on rollover, or title below image to control where the titles are placed.

Number of Related Posts / Projects – Controls how many related posts/projects are displayed on each single portfolio or blog post. Accepts a numerical value. For example, 5.

Related Posts / Projects Maximum Columns – Controls how many columns are displayed. Choose from 1 to 6.

Related Posts / Projects Columns Spacing – IControls the amount of spacing between items. Accepts a numerical value. For example, 5.

Related Posts / Projects Image Size – Controls how your images are displayed. Choose between fixed, which will crop the image, or auto, which will display it at the original image ratio (not original image size).

Related Posts / Projects Autoplay – Allows you to turn the autoplay feature on the carousel On or Off.

Related Posts / Projects Speed – Controls the speed of related posts and projects carousel. Accepts a numerical value. For example, 1000. 1000 is equal to 1 second.

Related Posts / Projects Show Navigation – Allows you to turn the navigation buttons on the carousel On or Off.

Related Posts / Projects Mouse Scroll – Allows you to turn the mouse drag control feature on the carousel On or Off. When this is On, the links on posts will be disabled.

Related Posts / Projects Scroll Items – Allows you to control the number of items that scroll at one time. Accepts a numerical value. For example, 5. Set to O to scroll the number of visible items.

Displaying Portfolio Posts On Your Site

Once you』ve created your individual portfolio posts, you can now use the Portfolio Element to display them on your site.
The Portfolio Element is a very flexible tool, which you can use to display your posts in a variety of styles and layouts. You can use its extensive design options and settings to build your ideal portfolio page.
To get a good idea of the possible configuration options available with the Portfolio Element, take a good look at the Portfolio Element page on the Avada Classic Demo. This page has a summary of what』s possible and shows examples of many layout possibilities. Also, have a browse under the Portfolio Menu Item, also on the Avada Classic Demo. Here you can see the various layouts possible through the configuration options available in the Portfolio Element, as well as what can be achieved by adding Sidebars.
The last item in the Portfolio menu item on the Avada Classic Demo is Single Posts Layouts, which shows what can be achieved with the global settings available in the Portfolio Single Post Options in the Fusion Theme Options and the corresponding local options in the Portfolio Tab of the Fusion Page Options.
Once you have a good idea of what you would like to achieve, its time to add the Portfolio Element to your site. This can be added anywhere on any page, and has a wealth of options for you to display exactly the type of Portfolio you want. There are three different layouts available: Carousel, Grid, and Masonry.  You can show only certain categories, exclude certain categories or display the whole portfolio.

How Portfolios Work In Avada

A portfolio is a collection of creative work intended to demonstrate a person』s ability, to a potential employer, or customer. And so websites often have a great need for such collections. Whether you are a web designer, graphic designer, photographer, artist, or in fact anyone who creates a body of work, you will probably want to display your work in a well-presented collection on your website.
With Avada, we make this possible with the Portfolio Custom Post Type and the Portfolio Element. There is also the possibility to make a custom Portfolio layout with Avada Layouts.

You can still create your Portfolios this way, but with Avada Layouts, you now have the freedom to create your own layouts, while still using the Custom Post Type for the portfolio items. See the Creating Custom Portfolio Layouts With Avada Layouts video for more details on this method.,The Portfolio Custom Post TypeThe first thing to understand about setting up a portfolio is that the portfolio is a custom post type in Avada, in the same way the blog or FAQ is. So, setting up a Portfolio requires you to create Portfolio items, and then you display them on your site in various ways, by using the Portfolio Element, much like we create individual blog posts and then use the Blog Element to display them on our pages.
The Portfolio Custom Post Type is similar to the 『Post』 Post Type in WordPress. It gathers your portfolio items together and provides options for Categories, Skills, and Tags, which allow for further filtering and sorting down the track. Categories and Skills can also be customized with language files if you want to have your own personalized headings.
The Portfolio Custom Post Type and the Portfolio Element, together with the Avada Theme Options and the Avada Page Options, offer an enormously wide range of choices, to give you a multitude of ways you can set up a Portfolio on your Avada site.,Overview of the Portfolio ProcessIn the other documents in the Portfolio Category, as you can see on the left hand side of the page, we break down the process of building a Portfolio into their individual steps, but in broad terms, to create a Portfolio on your Avada site, you will follow this general process:

Decide how you want to layout & display your portfolio items. There is a huge range of layout and display options with Portfolios. There are layout choices when working with the Single Portfolio Posts, and many display options when working with both the Theme Options and the Portfolio Element. A good place to start is to check out the various Portfolio examples shown under the Portfolio Menu item on the Avada Demo Site.
Most of the examples show the various display possibilities with the Portfolio Element, but the Single Post Layouts show the various configurations available with the Single Portfolio Posts. The 「Our Work」 section of the Agency Demo also is a great place to see what can be done with Portfolio posts. Watch the video at the top of the page for a detailed rundown of how that demo is using the Portfolio.

Create your individual Portfolio posts. These are the individual items in your portfolio. Each website, painting, sculpture, etc, needs its own portfolio post. The following documents go into much more detail on this process, but there is enormous flexibility here, both for how things are laid out, and options of using Categories, Skills, and Tags for further filtering and sorting.

Use the Portfolio Element to display your collection on your site. Once you have created your individual Single Portfolio Posts, you use the Portfolio Element to display them on your site. Again, there is enormous flexibility here, with innumerable, easy to use display options. The Displaying Portfolio Posts On Your Site document looks at all the possibilities.
The Portfolio options in Avada are amongst the most powerful and flexible in the theme. But Portfolios themselves are the cornerstone of some sites, and so we have created a system that provides the necessary muscle and flexibility to cover almost any scenario. Portfolio Archives & Filters

Portfolio ArchivesThe Portfolio Archive pages are automatically generated from the Categories, Skills, and Tags that you enter into your individual portfolio items. When you are viewing a portfolio item on the front end, and click on a Category, Skill or Tag, you will be taken to a Portfolio Archive page, filtered to that Category, Skill or Tag.
These pages cannot be edited directly but can be styled and configured via the General Portfolio Options, found in the Global Options at Avada > General Portfolio. Please see the Portfolio Global Options doc for more details on what can be configured here. You can also add Sidebars to them in the Avada > Sidebars > Portfolio Archive tab in the Global Options.
The items shown on the Archive pages pull their information from the individual Portfolio posts, including their Featured Image, Category, Skills, etc, so even if you are not displaying this information on the Single Portfolio Posts, it』s important it』s entered into the Portfolio tab of the Avada Page Options on each Portfolio item, so all your Portfolio Posts are shown when filtering.
Portfolio FiltersPortfolio Filters are an option in the Portfolio Element, and are used to allow your users to sort and filter your Portfolio items. You can assign Categories or Tags as the basis for the Portfolio filters, and you can show filters on both Grid and Masonry Portfolio layouts. The filter bar essentially allows your viewers to sort posts easily by a Category or Tag they are interested in, for a better user experience.
Tags and CategoriesPortfolio Filters are categories and/or tags assigned to your Portfolio posts. When any given post can be seen by users on the frontend, the categories or tags assigned to it will be in the Portfolio』s filter bar. Read More About Creating Portfolio Posts How To Enable Portfolio Filters In The Portfolio ElementStep 1 – Edit the Portfolio Element by hovering over the element in the Fusion Builder and clicking the pencil icon button.
Step 2 – Ensure Masonry or Grid layout is chosen. The Portfolio Filters do not work with Carousel layout.
Step 3 – In the Show Filters option, you can choose Yes, Yes Without 「All」, or No. Select 「Yes」 or 「Yes without All」.
Step 4 – In the 「Pull Posts By」 setting, choose whether you』ll be using Categories or Tags to filter your posts.
Step 5 – In the available tags/categories field, enter the respective terms of the posts you』d like to display. Leave this option blank to display all categories or tags.
Step 6 – In the 「Posts Per Page」 option, select the number of posts you would like to display at one time in the Element. This can be up to 25.
Step 7 – Save the Element.
Show Portfolio Filters Options
Yes / Show – Selecting this option will show all the categories or tags of the posts currently being displayed. This option also includes an All filter on the front-end.

Yes Without 「All」/ Show Without 「All」 – Selecting this option will show all the categories or tags of the posts currently being displayed. This option does not include an All filter, so the posts showing will always be limited to a specific category or tag group.
No / Hide – Selecting this option will hide all filters entirely.Important Portfolio Filter InformationFilters will only work for posts that are actually on the current page. For example, a filter on page 1 cannot pull posts from page 2. So your choice of the number of posts per page, and the pagination chosen will have an effect on how the Portfolio Filters display.
「All」 FilterYou can choose to display an All filter to display all your posts, alongside the filters of the posts currently being displayed. On the other hand, you can also choose to just display the filters of the posts being displayed without the All filter. If the All filter is not used, the first filter is auto activated and only portfolio posts belonging to that category will be displayed on the page.
Infinite ScrollingCurrently, only filters from the categories of the first batch of posts that load on your page will appear above your posts. We』ve made it so when you scroll down the page to load more posts, the filters will automatically update to include any categories it may have excluded beforehand. Also, when you』re viewing a certain filter and load more posts, only posts within that filter will be shown.

Portfolio Featured Image Options

Every Portfolio Post you create requires a featured image. The featured image that you upload for a Portfolio Post will display on it』s Single Post Page (unless you disable it via the Avada Page Options), the Portfolio Element, Archive/Category Pages, and also on the Avada Recent Works Widget.
Avada offers different settings to customize how the featured image that is displayed. Please see below for more information regarding the different size options.
Portfolio Featured Image Size OptionsFixed SettingThe Fixed setting will crop each featured image to be the same size when displayed on the Portfolio Element. This gives a consistent look because each image is cropped to have the same width & height. View sample image here.
A Site Width of 940px will best display featured images set to Fixed. This option has to generate a predetermined image size for several conditions, and the sizes are based on a 940px site width. We cannot generate a predetermined size for all site width possibilities, so we chose to base it off a more common site width setting of 940px. If you use a site width larger than 940px, use the 『Auto』 setting which is explained below.

Auto SettingThe Auto setting will allow each featured image to show at their own respective original ratio (not cropped) on the Portfolio Element. This can result in a Masonry layout as the images you』re uploading may not be exactly the same size as one another. View sample image here.
If you want a consistent Grid layout using the Auto setting, simply make sure the images you』re uploading are the same size dimensions or the same aspect ratio. For example, if all the images are 1000px x 500px, they will look consistent in width and height and therefore give you a Grid layout. Alternatively, if some images are 1000px x 500px and others are 500px x 250px, they will still look consistent since they are the same 2 to 1 aspect ratio.

Get Avada,Portfolio Featured Image OptionsAvada Global OptionsNavigate to Options > Portfolio > General Portfolio panel to find the 『Portfolio Archive Featured Image Size』 option. This is a global setting that will affect all Portfolio Archive pages.
On the Options > Extra > Related Posts / Projects panel you will find a Related Posts / Projects Image Size option that relates to the Related Projects when using Portfolios. Please see the Related Projects doc for more info.,Portfolio Element OptionsThe Portfolio Element has global options which sets the default Portfolio Featured Image Size. Find this at Avada > Options > Avada Builder Elements > Portfolio.
The Portfolio Element also has a 『Picture Size』 option that overrides the 『Portfolio Featured Image Size』 option in Avada Global Options. To keep the global settings in the Avada Global Options, select 『Default』 in the Element options.
