Avada Design Elements vs. Layout Elements

Avada Design Elements vs. Layout Elements

Avada offers a large range of Elements in Avada Builder, from Deisgn Elements, Layouts Elements, and Form Builder Elements. See the Avada Builder Elements doc to see the full list of all Elements in Avada.
The Design Elements, however, are the main ones, and can be used everywhere in the Avada Builder, including in any Layout Sections created in Avada Layouts. But there is also a special class of Elements, designed for use only in Content Layout Sections, to help build these dynamic templates. These are called Layout Elements.
These Elements allow you to place dynamic content, related to the content area, into Content Layout Sections. As you can see below, there are a range of Elements to suite whatever type of Content Layout Section you are designing – whether that』s a blog layout, a portfolio, a WooCommerce single product layout, or even a 404 page or Search results layout.
Read How To Use The Avada Layout Elements Here! These Elements have a full range of options, in the same way the other Elements do, and you work with them in entirely the same way. Below, for example is the Author Element options panel.
The full range of Design Elements is also available to use when building Layout Sections, but the Layout Elements are only available when building Content Layout Sections. They are all dynamic Elements, that pull their content from the relevant section of your content. NB. This is not to be confused with dynamic content options inside normal elements.
For example, if you have created a Content Layout Section, in a Layout whose conditions specify that it will only be shown on Single Posts, then the Content Element would show the single post blog content. Likewise, if you made a Content Layout Section on a conditional Layout that only showed a particular Portfolio category, then the Archives Element would show only that category of Portfolio posts.
It』s these Elements then, that allow you to build the content in your Content Layout Sections. As mentioned before, these Layout Sections Elements are only found in the Content Layout Sections. In the Header, Footer and Page Title Bar Layout Sections, you have full access to all the Builder Elements, as well as the Dynamic Content options found inside these elements, but not the Layout Elements.
With the combination of Design Elements and Layout Elements, you can now design and build totally unique Custom Layouts, using the full power of the Avada Builder. With these powerful design tools, there』s virtually nothing you can』t achieve.

The Layout Section Builder

The Layout Section Builder

The Layout Section Builder is accessed from Layouts > Layout Section Builder from the Avada Dashboard. You will be taken to a page similar to that of the Avada Builder Library. It also acts in a similar way, but just for Layout Sections. If you』re not sure what Layout Sections are, please read the Understanding Layouts and Layout Sections doc. Read on to find out more about what you can do on this page…,Creating New Layout SectionsAt the top of the Layout Section page are two sections. The first outlines the process of using the Layout Sections in Layouts (Hint: you can close this with the X), and on the right hand side is an area, from where you can directly create different types of Layout Sections. From the drop down box, choose your Layout Section type (i.e. Header, Page Title Bar, Content or Footer) and then give it a name in the field to the right of this. Then click on Create New Layout Section.
Using this method simply creates a Layout Section, and allows you to edit it. It does not assign it to any specific Layout. This would be particularly useful when assigning Layout Sections to Global Layouts, as they are live as soon as they are added, and at this point, they are still empty. Remember you can use your Layout Sections on Multiple Layouts if needed.

Get Avada,Managing Your Layouts SectionsAt the bottom of the page, existing Layout Sections are listed. As you can see in the screenshot below, this area has a very similar layout and functionality to the Avada Builder Library.
Along the top, you can see a summary of your Layout Sections, and what type they are. You can also see this individually on each Layout Section from the colored label in the right column.
When you mouse over a Layout Section, there are a range of options available. Edit is the first one, and this will open it in the back-end interface of the Avada Builder. Next to this is Clone, which just duplicates the Layout Section in the Layout Sections List. Avada Live is the next link, and this will open the Layout Section for editing in Avada Live. Finally, you can delete your Layout Section with the Trash link. This adds it to the Trash, but does not permanently delete it.
OK, that』s it. To allocate your Layout Sections to specific Layouts, return to the Layouts page, from where you can create and manage your Layouts. If you still need some clarification on the differences between Layouts and Layouts Sections, please follow the link to that doc.

How To Use The Avada Layout Elements

How To Use The Avada Layout Elements

Layout Elements are special, dynamic Elements that are found in Avada Builder. These are found primarily when editing Content Layout Sections through Avada Layouts, but some are available when editing Page Title Bar Layout Sections, and when editing Post Cards in the Avada Builder Library. Currently, there are twenty three of these special Elements, which can be used to dynamically populate the Content Layout Sections and Post Cards.
Some of these Elements can only be used once in a Layout, while others can be used multiple times. Scroll down to read a brief description of each of the Layout Elements in Avada, and watch the video for a more detailed look at Layout Elements, and their usage.
IMPORTANT NOTE: The full range of Layout Elements are ONLY available when editing Content Layout Sections in Avada Layouts, while some are found when editing Page Title Bar Layouts Sections and when editing Post Cards through the Avada Builder Library.,Layout ElementsArchivesAuthorCommentsContentFeatured Images Slider

How To Build A Custom 404 Layout

How To Build A Custom 404 Layout

As part of Avada Layouts, you can now create a fully customized 404 Layout on your website, using the full design power of Avada Builder. No longer do your users have to see boring 404 pages, as now you can create something that matches the visual style of your site.
Wait.. What is this 404, you might ask? Put simply, a 404 page is just an error page that is displayed when the URL you enter does not lead to an existing page. Read on to learn how to build a Custom 404 Layout in Avada, and watch the video for a visual overview.,Overview

Conclusion,The Avada Layouts InterfaceYou find Avada Layouts at Avada > Layouts, directly from the WordPress Sidebar, or from Layouts on the Avada Dashboard. This interface is where you both create and manage your Layouts and Layout Sections. Initially, there is just a Global Layout, and by default this is empty, with no attached Layout Sections, as you can see below.
To create a Custom 404 Page, the first thing to do is to create a Custom Layout. See the Introducing Avada Layouts doc for a general overview of the Theme Builder, and Understanding Layout and Layout Sections for more information on the difference between these two parts of Avada Layouts, but for now, let』s now look at creating the Custom 404 Layout.,Creating A Custom LayoutThe first step in creating a Custom 404 Layout, is to create the actual conditional layout itself. This is done on the Layouts page, by simply adding a name (in this case, perhaps 404 Layout would be most appropriate) and then clicking on Create New Layout in the Layout Builder, as can be seen below.,Creating Custom Layout SectionsThe page reloads and the Layout is added to Avada Layouts. At this point is has no conditions set, and no Custom Layout Sections added. Now we have a 404 Layout, we can begin to create the Layout Sections that we will add to it. In this example, we will add both a Custom page Title Bar and a Content Layout Section.
You can create a Custom Layout Section for your 404 Layout in one of two ways. You can head to the Layout Sections page at Layouts > Layout Sections from the Avada Dashboard, and create one from there, as seen below.
Alternatively, you can create one by clicking on the corresponding Layout Section in the existing Layout, and create one from there. The first method just creates a Layout Section, while the second method attaches it to a Layout at the same time. There』s no wrong way to do this, but it』s important to know the differences.
So to create and add the Page Title Bar Layout Section, I would click on the Select Page Title Bar section of the Layout, and in the following dialog, under the New Section tab, I would give it a name (404 PTB would be appropriate) and click on Create New Section. I would then repeat this process for the Content Layout section (404 Content).
This creates and connects the two Layout Sections to the Layout, but at this point, they are still empty. If we mouse over the Layout Section on the Layout, as shown below, we can click on the edit icon to design and build our two Layout Sections.

Get Avada,Editing a Custom Layout SectionNow we come to the Avada Builder, and here we can create our Custom Layout Sections. You can do this in either the Avada Builder or Avada Live. Please refer to Creating Layout Section Content for more information on this, but in short, you can build anything you want here.
Anything you can build in the Avada Builder can constitute the content of your Custom Page Title Bar and Content Layout Sections. You can have multiple columns, background images, anything. The freedom this gives is enormous. The Layout Section is literally that – a section where the content will show. The content itself comes from the Builder, and what you can do is only limited by your imagination. See below for an example of the Content Layout Section of the 404 Layout on the Taxi Demo.,Setting Conditions For The LayoutWith a Conditional Layout, the last thing you need to do is to set the conditions of the layout. This is best done last, because as soon as you set the conditions, the layout is active, and if you do this after creating the Layout Sections, but before editing them, the pages displayed that fit the conditions would be empty in those sections.
To add a condition, or conditions, simply mouse over the bottom of the Layout, and choose Add A Condition. This brings up the Layout Conditions Dialog, as seen below. Please see Understanding Conditional Layouts for more information on Conditional Layouts, but for this example, all we need to do is set the conditions for a 404 page.,Example Of A LayoutAs an example, see below the Page Title Bar and the Content Layout Sections created for the Taxi Prebuilt Website 404 Layout. To see a live example of the 404 Layout, just follow this misspelt link.,ConclusionWith Avada Layouts, creating a Custom 404 Layout is not only now a reality, but rather, an unlimited possibility. You can use the power of Avada Builder to create almost any 404 Page you can conceive of.
Avada Layouts is a game changer in the true sense of the word. It enables such freedom of design, and gives such flexibility in deployment, that building your website layout will simply never be the same again.

Understanding Conditional Layouts

Understanding Conditional Layouts

A Conditional Layout is simply a way to make a Layout that only applies to certain pages, or conditions. In this way, you can have multiple layouts for different post types or categories, or whatever your design needs are.
By default, in Avada Layouts, there is only the Global Layout, which you can use to add global custom Layout Sections to. But you can also create as many other Layouts as you like, and then set conditions for when that Layout will be used. Conditions are largely based on custom post types, and there are many conditions for each type. For example, you might want a layout that is only active on Single Post Pages, or Single Portfolio items, or Event Calendar Items etc. But conditions can be as complex as you want, and you can use both multiple conditions, and multiple exceptions. This is a very powerful system, which can create Custom Layouts for virtually any aspect of your site. Let』s look at the Layout Conditions dialog to see what can be done with this amazing tool.
As seen below, it』s is split up into three columns, the first one being broken up into the Custom Post Types available on your installation. If you select a Post Type, the middle column is then populated with all possible conditions for that post type. For each condition, there is a tick box and a cross box. Use the tick box to include a condition, and the cross box to exclude a condition. Selected conditions are then shown in the third column, for a simple overview of the conditions chosen for the layout.
ExamplesRather than go through every single condition, let』s show a few examples of how the Layout Conditions might be used. The possibilities are almost endless and depend entirely on your situation, but once you understand how the conditions work, you will easily be able to apply them to your specific site and situation.
Custom 404 PageA Custom 404 page is now very easy to create. Simply make a new Layout, and in the conditions, assign it to Other > Custom 404 page. Then, using a Content Layout Section, you can design whatever 404 page you like, with any content and design, using the full power of the Avada Builder.
Custom Single Posts LayoutThe next example, is a Custom Single Posts Layout with an exclusion. As you can see from the Layout Conditions below, this Layout would be shown on ALL posts, with the exception of posts in The Designer Show Category. For this category, the default single posts layout would load, unless you created a custom layout for just that category.
Custom Post Category PagesIn this example, the Layout conditions have been set to only show the Layout on certain Post Categories, in this case, Business and Business Broadcast. This might be, for example, if you wanted a Custom Advertising Banner above or below your normal Post Content for only these two Categories.

Updating Avada from Older Versions?
How To Update The Avada Website BuilderAvada Changelog,Avada 7.6 Important Update InformationIMPORTANT NOTE: It is always best practice and recommended to complete a full database backup before you update any software. Below are specific items that are important to be aware of when updating to Avada 7.6. Please read them in detail.1. Removed 「Enable CSS Variables」 optionAvada 7.6 removes the 「Enable CSS Variables」 Global Option. This has long served as a fallback option to allow compatibility with Internet Explorer, which does not understand CSS variables. Since the support of Internet Explorer was dropped in WordPress, 5.8, and Avada 7.4, CSS variables can now be used in all modern browsers. For performance and reasons and for better compatibility with future features, we have removed this option, which means, that Avada』s CSS will now rely on CSS variables.
There should not be any changes in front-end appearance, but it is good to check your site after updating, as there might be some minor differences in a few edge cases.
2. New Global Color SystemAvada 7.6 introduces a whole new global color system, which you can learn more about in our documentation. When updating your site, Avada will try to automatically detect the most important colors on your site and will create a global color palette accordingly for you. Any color setting you want to change or for any element that you add, you can easily use the new global colors then. For your existing post/page content though, no automatic mapping to the global colors will be performed, to avoid any update issues.
3. Changes Social Links Element Color OptionsIn Avada 7.6 we have introduced a new global color system and new color picker options. Additionally we have added options to control normal and hover states for the icons, globally and within the element. In some cases, that cn lead to changes in the hover colors of social links.
In order to allow the social link items to work with this new color system, we have also removed the ability to specify pipe-separated (|) color values.

Always Backup Your Current SetupIt』s always a good idea to make sure that you have a current backup of your web site, including your wp-content folder, your wp-config.php file, and your .htaccess file in your WordPress installation folder, and a copy of your WordPress database. You can use these to revert back to your original site if something unforeseen happens during the update process. If you are not familiar with how to do this yourself, there are several plugins available that completely automate that process for you, such as: UpDraft Plus and WordPress Backup Buddy. If you are using the Revolution Slider and have added custom CSS, please make a backup of the styles because those will be removed when you update. You can also backup your Avada Theme Options on the Backup tab in Appearance > Theme Options > Backup.
2. Do Not Keep Older Copies of The Theme In WP Theme FolderYou should completely remove all previous Avada theme folders before adding the new updated theme folder, or you could end up with WP path issues, etc.
3. Do Not Rename The Theme FolderIf you rename your theme folder when you update, then the path is no longer valid. WordPress stores menus and widget settings and some other settings by folder path. You need to rename your theme folder back to what it was before, and your settings, menus, widgets will be restored. Make a copy of your current theme folder before you upload the new theme.
4. Reset Theme Cache, Browser Cache, Server Cache And Plugin CacheIt is always recommended to reset all caching systems after an update, including theme cache, your browser, plugin (e.g. W3 Total Cache), and server cache. Visual issues may happen and more often than not, its caused by caches, and they need to be emptied. Each browser allows you to remove cookies, history and other data. If your theme or Avada Core version is not updated after uploading the new files, it is due to a server-side caching system. Some hosting providers have server-side cache systems installed to optimize the speed of content delivery, please clear any server-side cache or ask your host to do it. This is also true for google pagespeed setups or cloudflare setups. View our general cache information that describes the various forms of cache and how to clear them.
For Avada versions 5.1 and higher there is a special button in Theme Options, called 「Reset Fusion Caches」 that lets you reset the theme cache. You can find it by going to Avada > Theme Options > Advanced > Dynamic CSS & JS. In Avada 5.8, this is now found in Avada > Theme Options > Performance > Dynamic CSS & JS.
5. Update The Child ThemeIf you have copied template files from parent theme to child theme. Please make sure to revert to parent theme first to confirm if the issue exists there too. If it doesn』t, please update the templates copied to child theme with the parent theme.
If the style.css of your child theme is not enqueued after you have updated to Avada 7.2 you need to edit child theme』s functions.php file and replace the enqueue function with the following:
Copy to Clipboardfunction theme_enqueue_styles() {
wp_enqueue_style( 'child-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/style.css', [] );
}
add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'theme_enqueue_styles', 20 ); 1function theme_enqueue_styles() {2 wp_enqueue_style( 'child-style', get_stylesheet_directory_uri() . '/style.css', [] );3}4add_action( 'wp_enqueue_scripts', 'theme_enqueue_styles', 20 );Note that the enqueue function in Avada versions prior to 7.2 looks very similar. In the above snippet lines 2 and 4 are slightly changed.
This change needs to be made, because of a performance enhancement that was added to Avada 7.2. The parent theme』s avada-stylesheet is now part of our compiled style file, which reduces the number of GET requests made to the server.
Before Avada 7.2, the child theme listed the parent theme』s stylesheet file (avada-stylesheet) as dependency. Since that file is now added to the compiled CSS file, the dependency needs to be removed from the child theme』s style.css file, in order for it to be enqueued.
6. Required & Recommended Plugins Must Be UpdatedWhen you update the theme, you will see a notification message in your admin telling you the required and recommended plugins need to be updated. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the plugin updates. Our Avada Core plugin is the only required plugin and it has to be installed and activated for theme features to work. Make sure you are always using the most recent version of the Avada Core plugin. You will be prompted to install it upon installing or updating your theme. If you dismiss the prompt or do not see it, then you can go to Appearance > Install Plugins page and install the plugin that way. Every time you update the theme, the plugin also needs updated.

General Update Information

General Update Information

With each new Avada update comes a set of new options, features, and code improvements. Our team always ensures we make everyone aware of any important items that will show in the new update. This post outlines several items that should be taken into account anytime you update your theme. Being aware of these items can drastically reduce avoidable issues when updating Avada or any theme.
General Update Information1. It Is Always Recommended To Backup Your Current Setup
It』s always a good idea to make sure that you have a current backup of your web site, including your wp-content folder, your wp-config.php file, and your .htaccess file in your WordPress installation folder, and a copy of your WordPress database. You can use these to revert back to your original site if something unforeseen happens during the update process. If you are not familiar with how to do this yourself, there are several plugins available that completely automate that process for you, such as: UpDraft Plus and WordPress Backup Buddy
If you are using the Revolution Slider and have added custom css, please make a backup of the styles because those will be removed when you update. You can also backup your Avada Theme Options by generating an export file from the Import / Export tab in Avada > Theme Options > Import / Export. Read our Backing Up Your Site & Theme Options document for more information on that process.
2. Do Not Keep Older Copies of The Theme In WP Theme Folder
You should completely remove all previous Avada theme folders before adding the new updated theme folder, or you could end up with WP path issues, etc.

3. Do Not Rename The Theme Folder
If you rename your theme folder when you update, then the path is no longer valid. WordPress stores menus and widget settings and some other settings by folder path. You need to rename your theme folder back to what it was before, and your settings, menus, widgets will be restored. Make a copy of your current theme folder before you upload the new theme.

4. Reset Browser Cache, Server Cache And Plugin Cache
It is always recommended to reset your browser, plugin, and server cache when you update. Visual issues may occur after an update. This is something easily avoided by clearing your cache after all updates.
Read this document for more details on clearing various forms of cache.

5. Required & Recommended Plugins Must Be Updated
When you update the theme, you will see a notification message in your admin telling you the required and recommended plugins need to be updated. Follow the onscreen prompts to install the plugin updates. The Avada Core and Avada Builder plugins are the only required plugins. These have to be installed and activated for the theme to work correctly. Make sure you are always using the most recent version of the Avada Core and Avada Builder plugins available for your theme version. If the required Avada Core and Avada Builder plugins are not active or not running the latest available versions, you will see a notice at the top of your WordPress admin pages. If you dismiss the prompt or do not see it, then from your WP Admin, navigate to Avada > Plugins & Add-ons and activate/update the plugins as needed. Plugin Installation & Maintenance

There are two places you can add and manage plugins when using Avada. The first is the WordPress Plugins page, from where you can install and manage any free plugins in the WordPress Plugin Repository, or any Premium plugins you have purchased and downloaded.
In addition to this, there is also the Avada > Plugins / Add-ons page, where we directly offer a range of premium and other plugins you can freely install and use in conjunction with your Avada website. There are two required plugins, a number of bundled, Premium plugins, and a range of recommended plugins.
Read on to find out all about Avada』s included and recommended plugins, and watch the video below for a visual overview.

Avada』s bundled plugins are Premium Plugins that are bundled with the theme purchase and do not require additional licensing in order to use them with Avada. Before you can install any of the Premium plugins, including the two required plugins, you have to first register your Avada purchase. See Avada』s Bundled Premium Plugins for more information on these.
Lastly, there』s Avada』s recommended plugins, which are plugins that we use in our demos, and which are fully integrated with Avada. These are all free plugins and it』s completely up to you whether you install them or not. For some prebuilt website imports to work correctly however, some of these plugins must be installed and active.

Basically it means that you can enable themes and plugins to auto update, and within 12 hours of a plugin or theme』s release, WordPress will run the update. These 「unattended updates」 may not cause any issues, but it is not a method we recommend. Ultimately, this is a decision you have to make yourself. Please read this informative post from Wordfence about this topic.,Troubleshooting1.) I  Can』t Install The Required and Bundled Premium PluginsIf the 『Install』 button on the required and bundled Premium plugins (Avada Core, Avada Builder, Avada Custom Branding, Slider Revolution, LayerSlider WP, Advanced Custom Fields PRO, Avada Custom Branding, and Convert Plus) is grayed out, this is because you have to register your purchase first. Once you』ve registered your purchase successfully, you』ll be able to install and activate these plugins.
2.) The Site Crashes When I Activate The PluginsThis may be due to your server』s PHP configuration limits and will require that these configurations limits be increased. For most, these limits can be increased without having to contact your hosting provider. However, in rare cases some hosts can restrict manual intervention and that will require you to contact your hosting provider to increase the limits for you. Here is a detailed help file explaining how to update the PHP configuration limits.
3.) Updating The Bundled Slider PluginsAvada does include updates for our premium slider plugins, Slider Revolution and LayerSlider WP, and you do not require additional licensing in order to use the bundled plugins with Avada. As of Avada version 5.4.1 and higher, you now have the ability to update bundled premium plugins outside of theme updates. To update the premium sliders, simply go to Avada > Plugins / Add-ons section, and click the 『Update』 button. Before updating premium plugins, please always make sure Avada is on the latest available version.
4.) Unable To Update The PluginsWhen you update a plugin, it fails, and you see this message onscreen:
「Plugin installation failed. The update procedure could not delete the plugin due to a permissions issue on your server. Please ask your hosting provider to check the permissions level or manually remove the plugin via FTP before attempting to reinstall it.」
This indicates a server folder permissions issue as the removal of old plugin should be automatic on update. Deleting of plugins on a server can be blocked for certain user levels as permissions will be different on each host. Please check here the Permission Scheme for WordPress or contact your hosting provider to fix the permission issue. You can also manually remove the plugin folder under /wp-content/plugins directory via FTP, and then, reinstall the plugin via the Avada > Plugins / Add-ons section.
5.) Issues With RegistrationIf you』re experiencing issues with Registration and are certain that you followed the new Registration process fully, please contact your hosting provider and have them check to see if they are blocking our server. (These URL』s must not be blocked :: api.envato.com | https://theme-fusion.com | https://updates.theme-fusion.com) If your hosting provider confirms that they are not blocking our service, please submit a support ticket to our team so that we can investigate this further.
6.) Fallback Method for PluginsIf Token Registration continues to fail and you can』t install the premium plugins, an alternative is to go to your Support Desk, then switch to the Product Registration tab. In the provided field, enter your Personal Token Key and click 『Submit Code』. You』ll see a success notification and buttons to download the Avada Core, Avada Builder, Slider Revolution, LayerSlider WP, Advanced Custom Fields PRO, Avada Custom Branding, and Convert Plus plugins.
7.) Fallback Method For Prebuilt SitesFor an alternative method to download and install the Avada Prebuilt Websites, please see our Alternate Prebuilt Website Import Method help file.

How To Adjust System Status Limits

How To Adjust System Status Limits

On the Avada > System Status page, you』ll find some WordPress and Server Environment limits to check, to ensure your site runs smoothly. Any values in red may need increasing. Below you』ll find the most common limits that users encounter issues with. Continue reading below to learn more about what these values are, why they need to be adjusted and how you can go about adjusting them.
IMPORTANT NOTE: Please know that each hosting service is different, and the methods mentioned below may, or may not, work for you. Before trying these methods to increase your system status limits, it』s always best to contact your host first and ask them if they can make these adjustments for you.,OverviewWP Memory Limit
PHP Time Limit
PHP Max Input Vars,WP Memory LimitWhat Is The WP Memory Limit? The WP Memory Limit is the maximum amount of memory (RAM) that your site can use at one time. When you reach your Memory Limit, you』ll encounter a fatal error. Several things consume memory, such as WordPress itself, the theme you』re using, and the plugins installed on your site. Basically, the more content and features you add to your site, the higher your memory limit has to be.
Why Do I Need To Increase My WP Memory Limit? There are a number of factors that may affect how much memory your website will need such as content, themes, plugins, etc. The default memory limit for WordPress is 32MB. If you』re only running a small site with basic functions, this default value is more than enough. However, once you start encountering 『Fatal Error: Memory Size Exhausted…, it may be time to adjust your memory limit.
How To Increase The WP Memory LimitTo increase your memory limit, you』ll need to access and modify certain files such as the php.ini, wp-config.php, and .htaccess files. Most hosts won』t grant you full access to modify the PHP.ini file because it affects the whole server and all the websites hosted on it. Please contact your host first to find out if they can adjust it for you.
For advanced users who have their own server setups and full access to the php.ini file, please go ahead and try Method 1 first before the other methods. For standard users, we encourage you to try Method 2 and Method 3 instead.
Method 1: Change Your PHP Memory Limit in php.ini FileIMPORTANT NOTE: Many shared hosts prohibit you from having direct access to the PHP.ini file. Only do this method if you have direct access to your PHP.ini file or if you』re on your local host or own server setup. Please note that this won』t change the red WP Memory Limit value reflected in your System Status tab since this method adjusts your PHP memory limit.Step 1 – Locate your PHP.ini file. If you can』t find it, then you can create your own PHP.ini file in the root folder of your WordPress installation.
Step 2 – If you find your existing PHP.ini, open the file and locate the following line of code (xx represents a number):
Copy to Clipboardmemory_limit = xxM; 1memory_limit = xxM;Then change xxM to your desired limit. For example, 256M.
Step 3 – If you created your own PHP.ini file, then add the same code inside it:
Copy to Clipboardmemory_limit = 256M;xxxxxxxxxx1 1memory_limit = 256M;Simply change the value to the recommended value. For example, 256M.
Step 4 – Save your changes, and reboot your local host or server.
Method 2: Change Your WordPress Memory Limit in WP-config.php FileIMPORTANT NOTE: This is the value that you see displayed on the WP Memory Limit status on the System Status page. Changing this value to the recommended value (256M) will turn the WP Memory Limit status to green on your System Status page.Step 1 – Locate your wp-config.php file in the root folder of your WordPress installation.
Step 2 – Open the wp-config.php with a text editor program (Notepad or TextEdit) and add the following line of code above /* That』s all, stop editing! Happy publishing. */
Copy to Clipboarddefine ('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');xxxxxxxxxx1 1define ('WP_MEMORY_LIMIT', '256M');Simply change the value to the recommended value. For example, 256M.
Step 3 – Save the file and refresh your System Status tab. If the WP Memory Limit turns green, then you have successfully increased your WP Memory Limit.
Method 3: Change Your PHP Memory Limit in .htaccess FileIMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure to back up your .htaccess file before editing. This is another method to change your PHP memory limit. This will not affect the value displayed in WP Memory Limit on the System Status page.Step 1 – Locate your .htaccess file which is usually in the root folder of your WordPress installation. If you can』t find it, it may be because it』s hidden. Here』s a tutorial for Windows and a tutorial for Mac on how to reveal hidden files.
Step 2 – Open the .htaccess file with a text editor program (Notepad or TextEdit) and add the following line of code:
Copy to Clipboardphp_value memory_limit 256M;xxxxxxxxxx1 1php_value memory_limit 256M;Simply change the value to the recommended value. For example, 256M.
Step 3 – Save the file and refresh your website.
PHP Time LimitWhat Is The PHP Time Limit?the PHP Time Limit is the amount of time (in seconds) that your site will spend on a single operation before timing out. This is also to avoid server lockups. The default value for the PHP Time Limit is 30 seconds. When an operation reaches the time limit set, then it will return a fatal error that looks like this
Copy to ClipboardFatal error: Maximum execution time of xx seconds exceeded...xxxxxxxxxx1 1Fatal error: Maximum execution time of xx seconds exceeded...Why Do I Need To Increase My PHP Time Limit?Because the default value is only 30 seconds, you will most likely receive a fatal error when running longer operations. We recommend changing your PHP Time Limit to at least 180 seconds, or to 300 seconds depending on what your host allows.
How To Increase The PHP Time LimitTo increase your PHP time limit, you』ll need to access and modify certain files such as the php.ini, wp-config.php, and .htaccess files. Most hosts won』t grant you full access to modify the PHP.ini file because it affects the whole server and all the websites hosted on it. Please contact your host first to find out if they can adjust it for you.

If you can』t find it, then you can create your own PHP.ini file in the root folder of your WordPress installation.
Step 2 – If you find your existing PHP.ini, open the file and locate the following line of code (xx represents a number):
Copy to Clipboardmax_execution_time = xx;xxxxxxxxxx1 1max_execution_time = xx;Then change xx to your desired limit. For example, 300.
Step 3 – If you created your own PHP.ini file, then add the same code inside it:
Copy to Clipboardmax_execution_time = 300;xxxxxxxxxx1 1max_execution_time = 300;Simply change the value to the recommended value. For example, 300.
Step 4 – Save your changes, and reboot your local host or your server.
Method 2: Change Your PHP Time Limit in WP-config.php FileStep 1 – Locate your wp-config.php file in the root folder of your WordPress installation.
Step 2 – Open the wp-config.php with a text editor program (Notepad or TextEdit) and add the following line of code after 『define(『WP_DEBUG』, false);:
Copy to Clipboardset_time_limit(300);xxxxxxxxxx1 1set_time_limit(300);Simply change the value to the recommended value. For example, 300.
Step 3 – Save the file and refresh your System Status tab. If the PHP Time Limit turns green, then you have successfully increased your PHP Time Limit.
Method 3: Change Your PHP Time Limit in .htaccess FileIMPORTANT NOTE: Make sure to back up your .htaccess file before editing.Step 1 – Locate your .htaccess file which is usually in the root folder of your WordPress installation. Step 2 – Open the .htaccess file with a text editor program (Notepad or TextEdit) and add the following line of code:
Copy to Clipboardphp_value max_execution_time 3001 1php_value max_execution_time 300Then just put in the recommended value. For example, 300.
Step 3 – Save the file and refresh your website.
PHP Max Input VarsWhat Is The PHP Max Input Vars? The PHP Max Input Vars is the maximum number of variables your server can use for a single function to avoid overloads. The default value of the PHP Max Input Vars is 1000, while the recommended value is 1540. This limitation will truncate some post data such as your menu items which causes issues like your menu items aren』t saving or being left off.
Why Do I Need To Increase My PHP Max Input Vars? You may need to increase your PHP Max Input Vars if you』re running into issues with your menu. If your menu items aren』t saving properly, or if the last few menu items are being left off, this is most likely because your PHP Max Input Vars value is too low. We recommend your PHP Max Input Vars to be 1540 in order to load all the Classic Demo』s menu items.
How To Increase The PHP Max Input VarsLike the other values above, you』ll need to access and modify either the php.ini or the .htaccess files. Most hosts won』t grant you full access to modify the PHP.ini file because it affects the whole server and all the websites hosted on it. Please contact your host first to find out if they can adjust it for you.
For advanced users who have their own server setups and full access to the php.ini file, please go ahead and try Method 1 first before the other method. For standard users, we encourage you to try Method 2 instead.
